2008 photo contest

So this year I entered four photos for the contest. The contest closes September 15. After this date they will hold a fundraising dinner and everyone who is there can vote for the photos they like the best. We attended the dinner last year and they had it at Poverino's and also held a silent auction. Here are the photos I entered for the 2008 calendar.

I really wanted to enter some photos of Archie this year but it is really hard to take photos of black dogs. If anyone has any hints or ideas I would appreciate it. I even tried an Archie photo shoot just to get a photo for the calendar but I had no success.

Update

On Friday Basil's new family drove up from Edmonton to pick him up. I got an update from them and he is settling in nicely. Archie and Yogi adapted surprisingly well to his leaving. On the long weekend all three dogs were separated and Archie had some troubles adjusting to life without his buddies so I didn't think he would be o.k. with Basil leaving. But sometimes things just work out...

I booked my maternity photo shoot today. I have the most awesome photographer, Melina Perron. You can check out some of her work at: http://melinaperronphotography.blogspot.com/ After the baby is born we are going to get family photos as well. I am really excited about the shoot especially since I will have a ton of great photos to scrapbook.

Tomorrow I am meeting with my doula, Carly. Many people have asked me, "What is a doula?" Well.. The word has come to refer to "a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth." (Klaus, Kennell and Klaus, Mothering the Mother) So basically Carly is there to support me through the birth and help me have a positive experience. Carly is just starting her training as a doula but she is so knowledgeable and I am learning so much from her.

More Basil photos

The puppy loves to be outdoors. We have had some nice weather where he can enjoy the sun. He has such a beautiful temperament. He plays hard but he also relaxes as well. Here the photos show him after he enjoyed the wet backyard and watching Kevin work on the railing.

Play Time

Puppies are so much fun. Especially if there are other dogs to play with.

New Foster Puppy

Ah... Crazy me... I just can't help myself.

I found out about New Hope Dog Rescue last year. Once I convinced Kevin that we should have a foster dog, we signed up and then we waited and waited. We signed up to be foster parents about the same time we started renovations so we waited to clean up the house a bit before we took our first foster dog. Our first foster dog was Tilly. Tilly came to us last year (November) and she was about 4 months old when we got her. We had her for two months before she found her permanent home. Last weekend we volunteered to transport another New Hope dog, Snoopy, to Rosetown. This was not a good idea because it just made us want to foster again! Anyways I picked up Basil yesterday. His webpage is: http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=8550180 His mom is a small spaniel and her webpage is: http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=8525320
